Susan Situma is the Director of Programmes, Gender and Impact at the AECF, overseeing the Renewable energy and Agribusiness initiatives, advisory and investments, gender impact, and overall program implementations. With 18 years of experience in the financial sector, Susan has a wealth of experience and expertise in fostering the growth of small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
Before joining AECF, Susan was a senior business banking executive, focusing extensively on SMEs. For the last decade, she led SME banking divisions at two of Kenya’s leading banks, where she was instrumental in crafting and implementing strategies to enhance market share and drive impactful growth.
One of Susan’s hallmark achievements is the successful launch of the She Business proposition at Absa Bank Kenya. This initiative is specifically designed to accelerate the growth of women-owned enterprises through financial support and comprehensive mentorship. The She Business proposition has garnered global and local acclaim for its significant impact on economic empowerment.
Susan holds a certificate in leading sustainable business transformation from IMD Business School, Switzerland (2023), complementing her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from USIU. Her leadership and contributions have been widely recognized; she was honored as a positive role model in the financial services sector at the Accenture East Africa Business Awards in 2023.
