“My name is Sahra Ali Yusuf, and I sell fish in this market. I used to have a book where I would write my daily transactions, but I could not keep it for long because it easily comes in contact with water, so I don’t use it anymore.”
Sahra is among several traders in Mogadishu who have benefited from KBOOK, an app that helps them capture all their transactions and easily monitor the performance of their businesses.
Sahra was among the traders who received training on using the KBOOK app from Kaaliye Consulting Group (KCG), which developed the app. KCG operates the FIG-Somalia programme to provide business development services to target groups.
The app, available on Android and iOS devices, caters to a diverse range of MSMEs, providing them with customized, user-friendly solutions to enhance financial management, capacity building, and access to finance, ultimately fostering their growth and success in the business landscape.
Sahra says that since she started using the app, her business has been organised, and she can account for every transaction. The app allows users to record their daily inventory, sales, and expenditures. The user can also access profit and loss reports, receivables, balance, and payables.
“They (KCG) explained to me how to use the app, and within a short time, I was able to use it with ease,” Sahara says.
Once she arrives at the beach where she buys her fish, Sahra enters the number of the fish she bought into the app, along with the cost.
By the close of business, at the convenience of her phone, she’s able to see how her business performed. “In the past, we used to keep records in books, but not regularly. Now it is easy to keep tabs on what is going on in the business.”
Sahra says the records are secure and orderly. She adds that she recommends it to everyone who is in business.
