AGRA Board
The Board of AGRA under the chairmanship of Mr. Kofi Annan met in Nairobi on 3 and 4 December. The Executive Manager gave a short report on the first year of the AECF and the results achieved so far. A striking fact was that the AECF basically has committed all its available funds after 4 rounds, resulting in a portfolio of about 30 projects, which may benefit over 5 million rural poor in 3 to 6 years. The Fund is now moving into special windows of which the first one focuses on Zimbabwe.
The AGRA Board was impressed by the excellent results so far. Mr. Annan appreciated the rapid progress the AECF has made, particularly in the light of the current food crisis and the need for boosting Africa’s agricultural productivity. The Board encouraged AECF management to increase the number of loans in its portfolio and looks forward to the next progress report.
