

The AECF Zimbabwe Window (AECF ZW) is a special competition open only to business ideas in agribusiness and rural financial services that are to be implemented in Zimbabwe. The Window is initially funded by the Australian Government (AusAID) and the AECF is supported in running the competition by Acumen Africa Consulting in Harare.
The goal of the AECF ZW is to accelerate pro-poor growth in rural Zimbabwe. The AECF will provide grants of up to US$1.5m to private sector companies to support them in developing, testing and implementing new and innovative business ideas.
Progress to Date
Round one opened on 10th December 2009 and closed on 31st January 2010. There were 570 registrations and a very impressive 362 applications.

42 applications were shortlisted for consideration by the AECF Investment Committee and from those 20 companies were invited to submit full business plans. Of these 20 projects, 16 are in agribusiness and four are in rural financial services.
The Zimbabwe Window Round One results will be announced in late May.
